In November of 2014, I became a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. The following year, I attended an illustration seminar produced by the Michigan chapter entitled, The Hook of the Book. Incredibly, I won a 16-week mentorship with award-winning "artistrator," E. B. Lewis. (The potting shed, the little girl poking the "meremouse," the flying saucer at the gas station, and the pirate ship were all homework assignments.)
What I learned compelled me to discard my first attempt at storytelling in favor of a picture book based on the characters in the potting shed illustration. But the story kept growing in my mind. It has since become a midgrade trilogy called, The Seed. The first book, Of Ghosts and Gardens, is in manuscript form. Presently, I'm seeking representation.
